The Future of Amateur Radio
ARRL encourages young people to explore the wide range of experiences and activities available to them through amateur radio. Here are some examples:
NetHam: The Public Service Event Coordinator’s Third Hand
When asked what inspired the creation of NetHam: The Public Service Event Coordinator’s Third Hand, the student said, “I experienced firsthand the complexity and convoluted ways of running an Amateur Radio net at local public service events, such as the Walnut Festival Twilight Parade, Mt Diablo Challenge Bike Ride, and Diablo Summit Stomp. To remove some of the tediousness of our Ham Radio volunteer’s tasks at these events, I created this app.”

Emergency Antenna Platform System (E-APS)
A fusion of robotics, amateur radio, and emergency service the Emergency Antenna Platform System (E-APS) is a tool for amateur radio operators (ARES, RACES) as well as First Responder organizations to turn any parking lot lamp post into and instant antenna tower.

ARRL Youth Licensing Grant Program
ARRL will cover the one-time $35 FCC application fee for new license candidates younger than 18-years old for tests administered under the auspices of the ARRL Volunteer Examiner Coordinator (ARRL VEC). The $35 FCC application fee will be reimbursed after the ARRL VEC receives the completed reimbursement form and the new license has been issued by the FCC. The reimbursement check will be mailed to the fee payer. Also, candidates younger than 18-years old would pay a reduced exam session fee of $5 to the ARRL VEC VE team at the time of the exam. For more information and for the reimbursement instructions, visit the Youth Licensing Grant Program webpage.
