Upcoming Contests - Things to Do

North American QSO Party - SSB

The August SSB edition of the North American QSO Party (NAQP) begins at 1800 UTC on Saturday, August 19, and concludes at 0559 UTC on Sunday, August 20. The NAQP's 12-hour format allows participants to do some great contesting, while still having time for other weekend activities. Power output is limited to 100 W, so this is a great contest for beginners with low-power stations to get their feet wet! Complete rules are available at ncjweb.com/naqp.

ARRL Rookie Roundup - RTTY

If you earned your ham license within the last 3 years, or have never participated in a RTTY contest before, the ARRL Rookie Roundup is the perfect opportunity for you to try out contesting on this digital mode. The event begins on 1800 UTC, Sunday, August 20, and runs for 6 hours, concluding at 2359 UTC.

Rookies can contact everyone, and non-Rookies can only contact Rookies. The exchange is your name, call sign, a two-digit year, and state (US or Mexican), Canadian province, or "DX." Full rules are available at http://www.arrl.org/rookie-roundup.

World Wide Digi DX Contest

The World Wide Digi DX Contest begins at 1200 UTC on Saturday, August 26, and concludes at 1159 UTC on Sunday, August, 27. The objective of this event is to contact as many other amateurs in as many Maidenhead grid fields as possible using the FT4 and FT8 modes. The exchange is your station's Maidenhead grid square. Visit ww-digi.com/index.htm for rules and other contest resources.

Several State QSO Parties Coming up on August 26 - 28

Fans of state QSO parties can enjoy three different events during the last weekend of August. The Hawaii QSO Party begins at 0400 UTC on Saturday, August 26, and runs through 0359 UTC on Monday, August 28; the Kansas QSO Party starts at 1400 UTC on Saturday, August 26, and concludes at 2000 UTC on Sunday, August 27, and the Ohio QSO Party begins at 1600 UTC on Saturday, August 26, and ends at 0400 UTC on Sunday, August 27. More details are available at their respective websites or in the "Contests" section below.

The yearlong ARRL Volunteers On the Air event, recognizing the support and contributions of ARRL volunteers, continues. Get on the air and make contacts with as many ARRL volunteers or members as possible. There will be week-long activations of portable W1AW/# stations in all 50 states, and in several US possessions/territories. For a schedule of W1AW/# portable operations, see the W1AW Portable Activations Schedule. Be sure to upload your logs to LoTW and check your score online. Check out the full details at http://vota.arrl.org.

Bulletins

ARRL Affiliated Club Competition Changes Approved

The ARRL Programs and Services committee has approved changes to the ARRL Affiliated Club Competition (ACC). The eligibility circle radius for clubs in the unlimited and medium categories active in the club competition will increase from 175 to 250 miles. The local club category radius will remain at 35 miles. Contest club secretaries should revisit their club's eligibility lists and make any necessary updates before the start of the next contest.

For more details regarding the ACC, visit http://www.arrl.org/contest-club-tools/

Changes to Super Check Partial Management

Stu Phillips, K6TU, has announced that he is stepping down as curator of the Super Check Partial (SCP) list. Bill Fehring, W9KKN, will be taking over the role vacated by Stu. In parallel with the change of curator, SCP will no longer accept logs sent in via email. The implementation and support of the direct submission API into the major logging programs now generates more than 3000 logs each month.

Please continue to send reports of busted callsigns, requests for adds, changes, etc., to logs@supercheckpartial.com. Be sure to check the latest release before making a request as most callsigns will now be automatically added when you participate in contests.

Stu added that he would like to thank the contesting community for all the support he has received over the years.

- Thanks to Stu Phillips, K6TU
